Welcome to my website. My name is Alex but most people will know me as Burbs or Burbzy. (These is a name given to me from secondary school from my surname for anyone thinking that’s strange).
I am a physiotherapist and an Olympic Weightlifter so why not combine the two and create blog posts all about managing injuries, weightlifting, strength and condition. Trying to give people an insight into training, things they may be missing, things to look into, intent in training, training goals plus answering any questions anyone has.
A bit about me: strength and conditioning is a huge part of my life. I have been an Olympic weightlifter for 9 years now, competing in I’m sure upward of 20 competitions. As a reference, for a few of those years I used to spend 18 hours per week in the gym training, which is probably a bit much… But I think that says all it needs in regards to my passion!
My passion is training and I want to help as many people (as well as myself) as I can optimise their training, manage injuries. To do this it means managing training loads, managing pain, managing lifestyles, creating habits and a lot more – all of which I will cover in the weeks to come. And I feel as a physiotherapist, I should be leading by example training consistently and not just educating people on what should be done but also putting this into practice myself.
From a working perspective, I have worked as an muskuloskeletal (MSK) physio for the last 3 years diagnosing, treating and managing a variety of sporting, working and ‘just part of life’ injuries and pain. Some more complex than others. Being able to adapt, improvise and problem solve on short notice is part of this work and my love of training and understanding of managing intensities/exercises/progressive overload gives people/patients options for exercise and strength training and help people find a love of exercise and to enjoy life, have a greater quality of life and hopefully experience less pain and have a better function overall.
More generally, I love sport. Over the years I speak to various friends and they may ask me about music… films… TV programmes… and I have not got a clue what’s going on (most of the time – this may be a bit of an overexaggeration). But ask me about recent sport around the world, and 90% of the time I know who or what you’re talking about. This definitely shows me that I may need to spend less time watching Sky Sport News, which is normally on in the background of whatever I’m doing at home. Mostly I spend my time training in weightlifting, watching the England cricket team get demolished by Australia (even if they are currently into a T20 world cup semi final, which is pretty good for once), follow Chelsea (sorry to any other football fans) and doing physio work – maybe not in this order of priority.
In the weeks to come I will endevour to post weekly blog on all things strength and conditioning and physiotherapy so keep an eye out. If there is questions/queries/topics feel free to DM me on LinkedIn/instagram/youtube with all of my links in the top right corner of the home page.
For physiotherapy appointments the link to LDN physio appointments is also at the top right corner of the page with timings at the bottom.
Have a lovely week!
